mother of all living . . .

i really really really think mothers and motherhood is the greatest job and calling in the world. not to say that it's peachy every moment of life. but i feel like being a mother is the most sacred thing a woman is and can become. regardless if she has children or not.

i was thinking about the creation the other day and thought about Eve's name. i know that there was talk about how Eve was called the mother of all living before she had children. and i love that. but i started thinking about why that is. what does that title mean? what was she doing that she was worthy of such a title? i wondered if a mother is to be the ultimate nurturer. as the mother of all living (why those words) thing LIVED with her. things grew because of her influence. things were accepted for what they were and she assisted in creating growth and they became more. only in the safety and security of her presence and her climate did things become living.

don't know if that makes sense. sometimes i don't love how hard it is to find words to match feelings. i was reading my sister's blog and reflecting on this. i read one of her friends blog about a similar moment and caught the words to this song that was playing on pandora. i'm sure kate rusby didn't intend this song to be about a mother and child, but i in my mind right now, that is what is being illustrated.

"You Belong To Me" (the youtube version)
See the pyramids along the Nile
See the sunrise from a tropic isle
Just remember darling, all the while
You belong to me

See the market place in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
see the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me

I'll be so alone without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too

See the pyramids along the Nile
See the sunrise from a tropic isle
Just remember darling, all the while
You belong to me

so here is my shout out to mothers all over - mothers who cherish and treasure and are giving their all to raise their precious children. hooray to mothers who could be running companies, or selling lots of products, or could be running every race, or be stunningly gorgeous but who are consciously choosing  to be mom. i sing praises to the fathers and dads that are doing everything they can so that mom can be mom.

i know this is the ideal. i know not everyone gets to be doing this - hello, look at my life; case in point - but i admire and want to be one of the hundreds and thousands who are working towards it and are making full-time 24/7 motherhood my number one goal. i love asking the why question so that i can realize that i get to be practice my mothering skills by making things live in my presence, with my influence: relationships, people's worth, safety of sharing hearts.

did i mention i really like moms?? (most especially my mom??!!)
i do. a lot.

I may be one of your random blog followers that you probably don't think about. My DH travels for work regardless of whether the kids are sick or I have things scheduled or whatever. He last two weeks have been extra long and motherhood hasn't always seemed so awesome. So thanks for the cheering and support and reminding. It made this day a bit brighter.
